Welcome to the Office of Scott Tong, MD
My goal is to provide the highest quality healthcare that will enable my patients to age with dignity, and stay as healthy and independent as possible. I am committed to ensuring there is adequate time and availability for each patient—allowing me to provide more comprehensive, proactive care than in traditional practices.
A primary care physician’s role is to be an educator, guide and patient’s best advocate. With ample time to focus on preventive measures and wellness, there is more time to develop a strong physician-client relationship that is at the core of the best care. As a patient of my practice, you will have peace of mind that the doctor who knows you best will be available when needed.
IN THE NEWS TODAY...TIMELY TOPICS
Warnings at major US airports
A mysterious viral pneumonia from China may be arriving to US airports soon. This pneumonia already sicken 40+ people and killed 2 so far in Mainland China, Wuhan province. The disease so far spread to Japan and Thailand and is expected at some point to arrive in the US. CDC has deployed several teams to 3 major US airports : San Francisco(SFO), Los Angeles(LAX) and New York(JFK). Travelers from China, esp. Wuhan province will be screened upon arrival to these airports for symptoms of pneumonia: COUGH, SHORTNESS OF BREATH AND FEVER. This is the first time CBC deployed airport health screening since the Ebola outbreak in 2014. Travelers to South East Asia, esp. China should be very cautious about looking out for these symptoms. It is a difficult season for doctors as this virus is spreading at the same time when influenza is expected to be more widespread.
We are beating Cancer
According to American Cancer Society, the death rate from cancer between 1991-2017 has been steadily dropping by 30% leading to 3 million fewer deaths. The is the largest year to year drop ever recorded. Lung cancer and melanoma patients esp. benefited from new drug that use patients’ own immune system to fight against the cancer (Immunotherapy). However, cancer is still the 2nd leading of death for Americans. Progress has stalled in colorectal and breast cancer. We have very good screening tests for them but not everyone is taking advantage of it. It is the healthcare providers’ goal to try to increase awareness of available screening tests for these cancers.
